NBA player arrives in Israel to discover new found Jewish roots

An American basketball star for the NBA arrived in Israel to vacation and learn Hebrew after recently discovering his mother is Jewish. Amare Stoudemire headed straight for Jerusalem shortly after his arrival.


U.S. Basketball star Amare Stoudemire arrived in Israel Wednesday morning and headed straight for Jerusalem..
 
Details of the athlete’s planned trip appeared on Twitter shortly before his departure for Israel where the NBA power forward said his trip to Israel “is going to be a great trip.”
 
Details were reported by the Haaretz newspaper and Israel’s Army Radio on Wednesday.
 
 Stoudemire, recently learned that he has a Jewish mother. He was quoted saying he plans to spend time in Israel learning Hebrew, the newspaper said.
 
"The holy land. Learn about it," he wrote on Twitter, adding "ze ha'halom sheli" – Hebrew for 'this is my dream'.
News of Stoudemire's trip quickly had Israeli basketball fans buzzing with speculation that they might one day see him playing alongside another Jewish NBA star, Israel's Omri Caspi, on the national team.

Accompanied by his girlfriend Alexis, the NBA star took time to eat at a kosher restaurant in the capital and meet with reporters.and said the aim of his visit is to see the historical sites and learn of his heritage.
