Israel approved the transfer of the daughter of Hamas’ Interior Minister in Gaza to hospital in Jordan, despite the fact that Hamas refuses to allow members of the International Red Cross to visit Gilad Shalit. Fathi Hamad is considered one of the strongest men in Hamas, formerly the head of the Hamas military wing Izzadin-al-Qassam, Fathi is also involved in negotiations to release Shalit.

Jordan's King Abdullah II asked Defense Minister Ehud Barak to allow the daughter of Hamas official Fathi Hamad to travel for lifesaving treatment to a hospital in Amman.

According to reports, doctors at the Jordanian hospital in Gaza apparently gave her the wrong treatment causing her condition to deteriorate. In an effort to save the girl’s life the Jordanian King asked Israel to permit the transfer of the girl from Gaza to Amman.

Barak and Chief of Staff Lt,Gen. Gabi Ashkenazi immediately agreed to the request, and Prime Minister Binyamin Netanyahu was updated on the issue.

After coordinating the girl’s transfer with the district coordinating and liaison office in Gaza, the girl accompanied by her mother was transported to Amman.

The mother is one of Fathi’s four wives and she is the sister of Mohammed Nasser who together with Mahmoud al Mabhouh (who was assassinated in Dubai) were responsible for the kidnapping and murders of two Israeli soldiers Ilan Saadon and Avi Sasportas in 1989.

Israeli security officials said while Hamas prevents anyone from meeting with Shalit, held captive in Gaza since June 2006, Israel does not prevent humanitarian assistance.

Last week Hamad ordered that a Palestinian suspected of assisting Israel be put to death.

Palestinian media in Gaza did not report on the issue, for fear of humiliating Hamas for receiving Israel's assistance.
