New combat surveillance systems used by troops monitoring Israel’s borders have effectively enhanced the army’s capabilities allowing soldiers to compile intelligence ahead of planned operations and have also proved successful in spotting terrorists or infiltrators approaching Israel’s borders.
The IDF Ground Forces Command unveiled new combat surveillance techniques applied along the Gaza border, which accompany troops as they pursue moving targets.
Three battalions comprise the new Combat Collection Corps, who are not only experts in camouflage but specialize in surveillance and compiling intelligence ahead of planned arrest operations, whether in Judea and Samaria, the Gaza border, or Israel’s northern border, officials said.
Soldiers’ are armed with various surveillance and reconnaissance systems to monitor Israel’s borders, Brig.Gen. Eli Pollak, who commands the newly formed corps told reporters Tuesday.
"The system proves most effective when we're dealing with real-time events that require immediate response, and help us track the enemy and assist ground forces in locating them,”he said.
Along the Gaza border the army has upgraded detections systems and has also deployed advanced radar systems and remote controlled weapons.
A remote control See Shoot weapons system, used by IDF forces in the north, is now being used by troops monitoring Israel’s southern border and the Gaza Strip.
IDF officers showed footage of a successful operation in which the system was used to engage four terrorists spotted approaching Israel’s northern border in December. Two of the terrorists were killed and a third wounded, and combat collection teams were able to guide combat helicopters to the site to neutralize the terror cell.
The corps plans to purchase 100 new surveillance systems to boost intelligence capabilities and monitor Israel’s borders officials said. |
